Hanoi – Perusahaan Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) Republik Korea (RoK) mengumumkan bahwa frigat DW-3000F yang dipesan oleh Angkatan Laut Kerajaan Thailand telah lulus semua tes dan akan dikirimkan ke negara Asia Tenggara itu di Agustus 20018, dirilis vietnamplus.vn, 27/7/2018.

Menurut pengumuman DSME, ini adalah kapal perang pertama dari jenisnya yang telah dibangun oleh perusahaan untuk Royal Thai Navy di bawah kontrak senilai 416 juta USD.

Fregat 3.700 ton, dengan panjang 123m dan lebar 14.4m, adalah kapal terbesar RoK telah diekspor ke negara asing. Setelah bergabung dengan armada Angkatan Laut Kerajaan Thailand pada Januari 2019, itu akan menjadi kapal perang terbesar dan terkuat di Asia Tenggara, melampaui Singapura.

Berdasarkan perjanjian antara kedua negara, pihak Korea akan mentransfer teknologi ke Thailand untuk pembangunan frigate DW-300F kedua secara domestik.

Para ahli militer mengatakan dengan pembelian teknologi pembangunan DW-3000F dan tiga kapal selam Tiongkok, dan awal dari proyek pembuatan kapal selam mini buatan sendiri, Angkatan Laut Kerajaan Thailand tampaknya menetapkan target ambisius untuk mendapatkan kembali posisinya sebagai angkatan laut terkemuka di wilayah.
