Singapore Technologies (ST) Marine, the shipbuilding arm of defence prime ST Engineering, is in the final stages of validating new high-speed marine craft designs featuring its indigenously developed air cavity hull (ACH) technology, Jane’s has learnt during the IMDEX 2017 exhibition being held in Singapore.

ACH technology aims to reduce the hydrodynamic drag of a marine vessel via air lubrication of its hull bottom. This injects and traps air underneath the hull to generate thin but large-area cavities that separate a significant section of the vessel’s wetted hull surface from the contact with the water, resulting in improved operating efficiencies and overall performance.
